6 - Mother - The Real Teacher

Gradually, Shakuba got a lot of work. She was earning enough money. Shakuba called Narayan, ‘Narayan, Son! Please come to me.’ Narayan went to Shakuba. Shakuba said, ‘Son! I wish that you study a lot. Now you must join the school again.’ Narayan agreed, ‘Yes, Ma. I will go to school.’

Shakuba said, ‘Son, Please remember one thing always. You must study attentively in school.’

Narayan promised, ‘Yes, Ma. I will study attentively.’ Shakuba continued, ‘You must remember Maharaj while going to the school as well as while coming back from the school and chant Swaminarayan-Swaminarayan. You should not look here and there on the way.’

Narayan reassured, ‘I will certainly follow your advice.’ Shakuba said, ‘You must not touch any woman knowingly. If you touch a woman unknowingly, you must come home and have bath with the remembrance of God.’ Narayan said firmly, ‘Ma, I will remember this throughout my life and follow it.’ Shakuba was pleased to hear such sincere statements of Narayan.

She caressed Narayan’s head and enrolled him in the school. (Narayanmama followed the promises given to his mother throughout his life).
